Do Something Nice for a New Mum

Hold the baby talk. Let's talk mums. Let's spoil them for a change. In fact, we'd go so far as to suggest that you baby them. Surprise a new mum with kind gestures she'll remember.

Make her a spa appointment while you handle the babysitting. (Then put her down for a nap.)

Arrange to bring dinner to the family. Not a cook? Not a problem—order pizza or drop off takeout. (Think about things they can freeze for later, too.)

Start a little library including books for the baby, or advice books and magazine subscriptions that the mum enjoys.

Hold the baby while she does all that "stuff" around the house she'd like to get done. Or do the "stuff" for her. The cleaning. The laundry. The dishes. Spend time talking. Or plan something you know she loves as a surprise.

Chances are the cameras have been working overtime since the baby was born. Enlist accomplices to help you get not only a photo of the baby, but also baby pictures of the mum and dad. Use grown-up pictures of the mum and dad if baby pics aren't available, and frame them.

Help her capture milestone moments. And give her ways to make sure she remembers them. Frame a picture. Help her start an album or an instant scrapbook. Give her a journal. You can't stop time...but you can slow it down just long enough to save the memory. You'll find a great selection of memory-keeping gifts at your local Hallmark retailer.
