Ideas for Celebrating Kids' Birthdays

Here are some great ideas to help you celebrate your childs special day.

Get the day started right by setting up surprises the night before. Stickers can be strategically placed on shoes, cereal bowls, toothbrush and backpack. Put a post-it note on the bathroom mirror that reads "Good Morning, Birthday Person!"

Give them a bag of lollipops or candy to share with their friends to help celebrate their birthday.

Instead of giving a card with a big present, put it in their backpack with a toy or stuffed animal. It's a good way of brightening up their school day.

Since they usually check their inbox when they get home, have an special e-card waiting just for them.

If you're going to be traveling on their birthday, decorate your car with signs and balloons. It's sure to get a lot of attention and honks from other drivers.

If you're going to be out of town on their special day, hide a few cards and small gifts before you leave. When you're on the phone together, guide them and tell them if they're getting "warmer" or "colder."

If you're going to be out of town on the days leading up to a birthday, send a series of cards counting down the days to the birthday. Or send Hallmark e-cards or a personalised greeting card.

Inspire your child to give back. On birthday party invitations, request that guests bring items for donation to a charity. You can also mark the occasion by giving a donation to a charity of the child's choosing.

End the day in the very best way. Say I love you!
